August has a rocky relationship with her mother who has used her to hunt down Uncle Auggie (August’s uncle). On the Q train, she meets Jane, a Chinese-American lesbian woman who always wears a leather jacket, listens to cassette tapes and has tattoos. She moves in with Myla (a Black-Chinese engineer grad) and her boyfriend Niko (psychic and transman), and Wes (trust-fund baby who was disowned after he quit architecture school). Twenty-three-year-old August isn’t sure what to expect from New York but it’s most certainly not an eclectic group of roommates, a job at the pancake diner and the attractive woman on the train who she may or may not be falling in love with.Īugust moves to New York to study at a university. ![]()
